Online Mortgage Advisor, a UK firm came up with the ‘most happy’ and ‘least happy’ places in the world to buy a house.
Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay, is a city that is popularly known for it’s high prices either in petrol or accomodation. Now as per UK firm, Mumbai is the least happy place in the world to purchase a home. They used Artificial Intelligence to scan the faces of photos of Instagram users who posted with the hashtags #selfie and #newhomeowner. The study stated, “We began our study by sorting through hundreds of thousands of geotagged Instagram posts from all over the world to find out how the happiness levels of the average Instagram user compared to those who have recently purchased a home. We then used an AI facial recognition tool to discover the most dominant emotions displayed in the faces in every photo.” The pictures found of new homebuyers, it was found that happiness was the dominant emotion in 83% of the photos.
The UK firm founded the ‘top 20 least happy cities in the world to buy a home’, based on the difference in percentage between the average happiness level of homebuyer posts in each city, and the average global happiness level of homebuyer posts. Apart from Mumbai, the list has also mentioned Gujarat on the fifth position. Other cities other than that of India includes Atlanta in the United States and Naples in Italy.
The study further revealed, “Every photo in our analysis was scanned with the Microsoft Azure facial recognition tool. Microsoft Azure analyses clear photos of faces and automatically provides a score on the levels of different emotions present. The detectable emotions are: anger, contempt, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, surprise, and neutral. For the purposes of our analysis, we combined the negative emotions (anger, contempt, disgust, fear, sadness) into one category (‘negative’).”
The UK firm revealed the list of ‘happiest cities in the world to buy a home’ which mentioned five cities from India. Chandigarh was at the first position whereas Jaipur was ranked at 10th, Chennai at 13th, Indore at 17th and Lucknow was positioned at 20th rank.
