Ola has bought the technology for the electric scooter by acquiring Netherlands-based Etergo. However, Ola executives say the product has been reworked substantially for India and only the design elements have been adopted.
Ola is also in the process of building its manufacturing unit which they term ‘Futurefactory’ in Tamil Nadu which is and it is going to be the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility. Ola Electric aims to invest Rupees 2,400 crore to build the plant to make 10 million two-wheelers a year by 2022.
The company earlier said that the first phase with a capacity of two million will be ready by June and the product is expected to roll out soon.
Ola also has plans to build their Hypercharging network over 1,00,000 charging points spread over 400 cities in India.
