Akshay Kumar’s festive release Bell Bottom is enjoying mild success at the box office, released just before the festival of Raksha Bandhan and after Independence Day, the spy espionage thriller has been able to collect around 13 crore rupees in the first weekend. The film was released on a Thursday instead of Bollywood’s usual Friday and reaped full success by enjoying the extended weekend.
As per a report by ‘Bollywood Hungama’, Bell Bottom saw a 35% jump in collections on Sunday as the film raked in collections in the range of Rs. 4.20 to Rs 4.40 cr.
Bollywood experts suggest it could be because of multiple reasons, most likely of them is that the film benefitted from the Raksha Bandhan festivity all across as Sunday saw families coming out for the first time since the film’s release on August 19. Some also suggest that audiences are now less hesitant to come to the theatre and this hesitancy will slowly fade away with time as more and more people will theares.
On Thursday, the movie’s release date, the spy thriller collected Rs. 2.75 crores whereas it collected another ₹2.75 crores on Friday. On Saturday, it went on to collect another ₹3.25 crores pushing the box office collections to ₹8 crores until Day 3. Sunday’s collection takes the number up to around Rs. 13 crores and has already become the highest opening weekend collection of this year beating Rajkumar Rao starrer horror-comedy Roohi which also was also released on a Thursday and collected 12 Crore in the first weekend.
However, good news is coming for the movie as the Delhi government has now allowed movie screening at night and Maharashtra Government is planning to open theatres.
The movie also has Huma Qureshi, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and is set in 1984 over the plot of a plane hijack.
