IAS toppers of the 2015 batch- Tina Dabi and Athar Aamir Khan whose wedding made headlines in 2018 and was attended by top politicians and officers have now been divorced. They have been granted a divorce by a family court in Jaipur.
Tina Dabi made history when she became the first Dalit woman to top the UPSC civil services examination in the year 2015. Athar A. Khan was ranked number two in the same exam that year. They both fell in love at their IAS training in what seemed a story straight out of fairytales.
They married in 2018 in a ceremony in Delhi and their reception was attended by Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, then Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and many other Union Ministers.
Tina who hails from Delhi studied at the Lady Shri Ram College of Delhi University graduating in Political science, cleared UPSC CSE in the first attempt securing all India rank 1.
Athar AK is from Anantnag, Kashmir and was undergoing training at the Indian Railways Institute of Transport and Management in Lucknow when he appeared for the examination in 2015 when he secured rank 2.
They both were allotted Rajasthan Cadre after their training and were even posted in the same city initially. Tina Dabi was later posted to Sri Ganganagar as Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad and Athar was later posted to Jaipur as the CEO of Zila Parishad.
As of now, Tina is serving as the Joint Secretary of Finance (Tax) to the Rajasthan government and Athar is posted in Srinagar as the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Their wedding on one hand was praised as a symbol of communal harmony by many and on the other hand, was subjected to trolling and backlash on social media.
The couple filed the application for divorce before the court in November last year with mutual consent just two years after the two got married
