Just before the 2022 election Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh submitted his resignation to governor Banwarilal Purohit on saturday. The announcement of his resignation was made by senior Congress leader’s son Raninder Singh on Twitter.
At the gate of Raj Bhavan, a press conference was addressed by, Capt. Amarinder Singh. He said,“I called up Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) this morning and told her that I am going to resign. The thing is, this is happening for the third time that MLAs are being called for a meeting, my leadership is being questioned.”
It all started when Navjot Singh Sidhu was appointed as the Congress chief against the will of Amarinder Singh. On Saturday, Captain Amarinder said that he will not accept Sidhu as the CM of Punjab, because it’s the matter of national security and he will ruin the state.
Congress veteran Amarinder Singh said he felt humiliated and the party doesn’t have trust on him. Now the main question in everyone’s mind was who’s gonna be the new Chief Minister of Punjab? People were assuming that Navjot Singh Sidhu can be the face for CM but on Sunday night, it turned out that Charanjit Singh Channi will be the new CM of punjab. He is the first Dalit CM of Punjab. In the government of Captain Amarinder Singh government, Channi has been minister of technical education, employment and tourism. Channi was selected after 24 hours of guesses made by people. Sunil Jakhar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sukhjinder Randhawa were the assumptioms of names for new Chief Minister. Ambina Soni was also being approached for the CM of Punjab but she rejected the offer, saying,”Have declined the offer, Punjab CM must be a Sikh.” As soon as the name of Channi came out, Capt. was seen congratulating the new CM. From PM Modi to BSP chief Mayawati, many politicians congratulated Channi.
In the decades, Charanjit Singh Channi is the first Dalit CM and the youngest CM that Punjab has seen. Charanjit Singh Channi took oath on Monday, at Raj Bhavan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reached there soon after Channi took oath. As the deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Brahm Mohindra took the oath. Charanjit Singh Channi sworn as the 16th Chief Minister of Punjab. He is the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab. He was born in Ramdasia Sikh Family. Now let’s see if Charanjit Singh Channi will be able to take strict actions against issues like weapons coming via drone from Pak or drug trafficking.
