President of Akhada Parishad, Mahant Narendra Giri, was found dead on Monday. Body of Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging in Baghambari mutt in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. According to the police, body of Giri was found dead at his home by his students. According to the sources, the door was locked from inside and had the be broken. Narendra Giri was found hanging from a nylon rope. A 5 page suicide note has been recovered from Giri’s room.
Suicide note written by 72-year-old president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, mentions,”I lived with dignity, will not be able to live with insult, this is why I am taking my own life.” Suicide note mentions the name of his (Mahant Narendra Giri’s) ‘Shishya’, Anand Giri. Anand Giri has been arrested by police from Haridwar. While Anand Giri says that his ‘guru’ has been murdered. Calling it as a ‘conspiracy’, Anand Giri, while speaking to Aaj tak said, “This is a massive conspiracy; senior police officials and land mafia, even his family members are involved in this. Those are the people who were roaming around Guru ji [Mahant Narendra Giri], asking him to sell properties owned by the Math.” He further added, “My name [in the suicide note] is an effort to end me. It is a conspiracy.”
KP Singh, Prayagraj police chief, said, “We are reading the note. He expressed he was upset. He also wrote what should be done with the ashram after his passing, in the form of a will.”
According to the copy of FIR, Section 306 of the IPC (Abetment of suicide), has been imposed on Anand according to the copy of FIR.
Prem Prakash, Prayagraj’s Additional Director General (ADG), said, “We are recording statements. The field unit is collecting forensic evidence. The body will be sent for post mortem tomorrow. We will be taking action based on the findings. No arrest has been made as of now.”
Haridwar Sp City Kamlesh Upadhyay said, “Anand Giri has been taken to Uttar Pradesh by the state police as to it was their matter.”
According to a notice issued by the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Late Narendra Giri’s mortal remains will be kept for darshan by the general public from 11.30 am onwards at the Baghambari Math. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh will be visiting Prayagraj to pay their respects. Samajwadi Party national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav will also visit Prayagraj to pay respects to Narendra Giri.
Mahant Narendra Giri headed one of the largest religious bodies of saints across the country. Many politicians expressed their grief by tweeting.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, tweeted, “The death of Akhara Parishad president Shri Narendra Giri ji is extremely sad. While devoted to spiritual traditions, he played a big role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together. May the Lord give him a place at your feet. Om shanti.”
Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of UP, tweeted, “The death of president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, Mahant Narendra Giri, is an irreparable loss for the spiritual world. I pray to Lord Ram to provide his spirit a place at his feet and give strength to his followers to bear this pain.”
Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav tweeted, “All India Akhara Parishad President Pujya Narendra Giri ji passed away, irreparable loss! May God grant the virtuous soul a place at his feet and strength to his followers to bear this sorrow. Heartfelt tribute.”
Late Mahant Giri once urged that the cow should be declared as a national animal, he said, “It is our responsibility to worship cows and serve them. We are responsible for the state of cows today. We take care of them only as long as it gives us milk. This is wrong.”
