Just months ahead of elections, resignation of Navjot Sidhu and Punjab minister Razia Sultana came. It came within 10 days after Amarinder Singh resigned.
57 year old Navjot Singh resigned as the Chief of Punjab congress which gave a big to shock congress party and Gandhi family. In his letter to Sonia Gandhi his wrote “The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress.”
As per sources Sidhu wasn’t satisfied or happy with the new cabinet made by CM Channi. He angry about the posts given to officials linked to the “sacrilege” case. He also seemed unhappy due to SS Randhawa who was assigned a key ministry.
Razia Sultana announced her resignation “in solidarity” with Navjot Singh Sidhu, who also resigned as the Chief of Punjab Congress.
In a resignation letter sent by Razia Sultana to new Chief Minister Channi, she said “I, Razia Sultana, hereby resign as cabinet minister, Punjab, in solidarity with Navjot Singh Sidhu, PPCC president, and millions of Congress workers across the state.”
Just like Navjot Singh Sidhu, she wished to offer her dedication and hardwork towards the party. CM Channi made changes in his cabinet few hours earlier of Navjot and Razia’s resignation.
Razia Sultana was given the departments of water supply and sanitation, social security, women and child development and printing and stationery. In a cabinet led by Amarinder Singh, she was allotted the charge of the transport department.
Letter by Razia Sultana said, “My heartfelt thanks to Sonia Gandhiji, hon’ble Congress president, and Rahul Gandhiji for their countless blessings on me and my family in our hours of need.”
Sultana and Sidhu are considered close to each other. Mohd Mustafa, husband of Sultana is a principal strategic adviser to the Congress leader. He is a former IPS officer also.
Former Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh tweeted, told you so…he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab. Earlier Capt. Amarinder Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab due to the “humiliation.” Now Sidhu and Sultana resigned by saying they will “continue to serve the Congress”.
Resignation of 3 top congress faces in Punjab is now gonna create a fresh crisis just month ahead of assembly elections in the state.
