Ahead of Punjab assembly elections, congress is refusing to declare the CM face for Punjab, which indicates that more twists and turns can come in Punjab politics.
On Tuesday, Chief of Punjab Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu, said that people of Punjab will decide their CM and not the Congress high command. “People of Punjab will decide who will be the CM. Who told you that the (Congress) high command will make the CM?,” Sidhu said while replying to a reporter’s question why the party had not named him the CM face. When asked which party he will contest from, Sidhu said: “Punjab is not the property of an individual. I will contest from Punjab”.
He asked people to not have any false implications in their minds. “Who told you that the high command will choose the CM?”, he said, adding that the MLA’s, as well as the chief minister will be chosen by the people. Navjot Singh Sidhu answered the questions while addressing a press conference on ‘Punjab Model’ in Chandigarh. The pictuy of Punjab CM, Charanjit Singh Channi and other Punjab Congress leaders was missing from the banners.
Earlier, Sunil Jakhar, senior party leader of Congress, said that Congress would not announce CM’s face for the assembly elections. Jakhar had said last month that the party will contest the polls under a “joint leadership”.
