On Sunday, the government of Taliban in Afghanistan appealed for international fight to re-start as the problems of Kabul airport which was severely damaged during the time when people were leaving Afghanistan. Talibans have now promised full cooperation with air services.
Aljah Hameedullah Akhunzada, Acting Minister, Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority, said in the letter to the DGCA, “As you are well informed recently, the Kabul Airport was damaged and dysfunctional by American troops before their withdrawal. By technical assistance of our Qatar Brother, the airport became operational once again and a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) in this regard was issued on 6 September, 2021.” The letter further said, “The intention of this letter is to keep the smooth passenger movement between two countries based on the signed MoU and our National Carriers (Ariana Afghan Airline & Kam Air) aimed to commence their scheduled flights. Therefore, Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority requests you to facilitate their commercial flights.” Akhunzada further said, “The Civil Aviation of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan avails its highest assurance.”
At a press conference, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said, “We have been prioritising the evacuation of our people there and some Afghans too. Currently, of course, the Kabul airport is not operational. So I don’t have an update on more flights. I think we will be able to revisit this issue once Kabul airport is operational.” This statement seems like an effort to open up country for international recognition.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, foreign ministry spokesman said the ban on flights impacted the life of Afghan people by preventing them to travel for their work or study. He said, “As the problems at Kabul International Airport have been resolved and the airport is fully operational for domestic and international flights, the IEA assures all airlines of its full cooperation.” IEA here is the abbreviation for Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The Taliban 2.0 is facing economic crisis from the starting. The government faced many allegations when new rules for girls and education were released. Now it seems like that the Taliban government is trying to gain an international acceptable by starting flights.
