After all the violence that was held in Lakhimpur Kheri. Political leaders of opposition parties wanted to meet the families of victims. But their entry was restricted in the area. Now, they are finally allowed to go to Lakhimpur Kheri and talk to families of victims. Priyanka Gandhi wanted to visit the area earlier but was stopped and sent to home arrest.
Priyanka Gandhi, general secretary of congress with the representative of party, Rahul Gandhi, Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh CM, Deepender Hooda, MP Rajya Sabha and newly appointed Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi visited the families of farmers who died in the incident.
Representatives of congress party reached on the first stop, Bhagwantnagar, where Lovepreet Singh of 20 year-old lived. When political leaders of congress party left, Satnam Singh, father of Lovepreet Singh, said “I only had one thing to ask for — I demanded justice for my son. She (Priyanka Gandhi) said she would fight for me.” Their next stop was Nighasan, where family of a journalist, Raman Kashyap, lived. Raman Kashyap used to work in local news channel and was killed during the violence.
Representatives of congres party protested when they were informed that will have to go to Sitapur by government vehicles, where Priyanka Gandhi has been detained. Rahul Gandhi said, “Police stopped us at the airport even after the UP government’s permission to travel to Sitapur en route to Lakhimpur Kheri. They are forcing us to board government vehicles, but we won’t.”
Sachin Pilot, former deputy Chief Minister and MLA in Rajasthan Congress who wasn’t able to reach Lakhimpur Kheri, tweeted, “This evening @AcharyaPramodk ji & I were detained in Moradabad while en route to Lakhimpur Kheri. We didn’t break any provisions of the law. These undemocratic steps of UP Govt will not deter us. We’ll raise our voice for justice for the deceased farmers & their families.”
Roads to the Airport was protected with police and CISF. Police officials gathered when Rahul Gandhi reached at the airspace. The Lucknow DM Abhishek Prakash said, “We received the Congress leaders and informed them that only five people could travel to Lakhimpur Kheri as prohibitory orders are in place.”
