On Sunday, India was out of T20 World Cup 2021 when New Zealand beated Afghanistan, and reached the semifinals. The match was held in Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. New Zealand beated Afghanistan with eight wickets. Afghanistan won the toss and choose to bat first. Player of the Match was Trent Boult with 3-17 (4 overs). This was the Super 12 match to qualify for the semi-finals.
India needed Afghanistan win to reach semi-finals of T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Pakistan will play against Scotland.
Players of New Zealand team were, Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson(c), Devon Conway(w), Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult. Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Shahzad(w), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Najibullah Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi(c), Karim Janat, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Hamid Hassan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman were players from Afghanistan team.
India lost two back to back matches with Pakistan and New Zealand. Pakistan won over India with 10-wicket.
On Sunday, at pre-match press conference, India’s bowling coach, Bharat Arun said, “We are backing Afghanistan to do well in this tournament. But again, in sport, sport is all about ups and downs, and you need to accept and move on. You need to give out your best at any point in time. It was the entire team and they were to do well in the series but that was not so.” He further added, “I’m not trying to give any excuses, but I think the toss plays a very vital role in a match like this (T20 cricket), the toss shouldn’t be of any consequence,” he said, adding: “But here the toss gives a very undue advantage. And that’s the reason why it’s a huge change between batting in the first innings and batting in the second innings. That shouldn’t be the case in a very short format like this.”
