An eco friendly decision was taken by the Chief Minister of Sikkim. On Saturday, PS Tamang, announced that packaged mineral water bottles will be banned in the state from January 1, 2022.
Government of Sikkim owes to work towards healing the environment and save available natural resources. Visitors from outside will not be allowed to enter into the state with any kind of packaged mineral water bottles.
PS Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim said, , “blessed with natural resources that provide fresh and good quality drinking water.”
“Sikkim is rich in natural water resources and all requirements for water can be met within the state through environment-friendly initiatives,” said the CM.
The CM said that three month time is given to finish the stock of packaged drinking water in order to balance the business. Natural resources will replace packaged water. CM called it a healthy alternative. The statement was made by CM on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The Sikkim government is trying to stop the supply of packaged water in the state. Packaged bottle is already banned in some areas of Sikkim including Lachen in North Sikkim, a popular tourist attraction. As per Tamang, Sikkim has enough natural water resources, so why not choose to drink natural water. He further said that environmental-friendly initiatives must be taken.
Sikkim is totally organic state. This happened only after the state stopped the sale and use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Chemicals are completely banned in the state. Now this is also an amazing move towards development. It will reduce the use of plastic.
